Updating my Wix page for my COMM 314 non-verbal communication class turned out to be quite the adventure! It wasn’t just about putting together a neat website; it was a fascinating exploration into how we communicate without words and how these ideas play out in the digital world. Seriously, I found out that every little element on the page could tell a story without uttering a single word, a true testament to the power of non-verbal communication.

Let’s be real for a second: the first thing that hits you when you visit a website is its design. I quickly realized that the way my Wix page looked would shape how people understood the content even before they read anything. This made me think about the concept of first impressions. You know how sometimes you just get a vibe from a place? Well, that’s exactly what I wanted my site visitors to feel. I worked hard to create an inviting atmosphere through my layout, colors, and images. It made me want to ensure that when people stumbled upon my page, they would feel welcomed and intrigued, primed to dive into the world of non-verbal communication.

Now, let’s talk about images. These powerful visual tools can convey messages that sometimes words can’t. In the previous version of my site, the images didn’t quite match up with the text. I could sense a disconnect between what I wanted to say and what people were actually seeing. So, I made it a point to choose visuals that resonated with the themes of non-verbal communication, like expressions and gestures. It’s incredible how much can be communicated through a well-placed image! By aligning my visuals with key concepts from the course, I could entice visitors to engage more deeply with the material, all without uttering a word.

Another revelation during this redesign was how important whitespace is, yeah, it’s a real game-changer! Just like how a pause can enhance a conversation, proper spacing on a webpage can make everything feel so much more digestible. My earlier design was cluttered, and it felt like I was cramming too much information into too small a space. I took a step back and re-evaluated thing, adding more whitespace helped create a comfortable balance that invited users to explore further.

And let’s not forget about functionality. I realized that integrating cool features, like videos or interactive content, could ramp up engagement significantly. I included videos that showcased non-verbal techniques, which ended up providing a richer experience than just words on a page. These media elements allowed users not only to read about but also to see and understand the practical applications of what they were learning. It felt like bringing the course concepts to life and showing that effective communication is more than just static text—it’s a blend of various elements in action.

Reflecting on this whole process made me think about my own growth in understanding non-verbal communication. As I worked on the site, I became more aware of how my own non-verbal signals come across in different settings—whether in person or online. This self-awareness gets to the heart of what we’ve discussed in class: understanding our own signals can significantly enhance our interpersonal relationships. It turned into a full-circle moment where creating an online presence also opened my eyes to how I present myself in various circumstances.

By the time I wrapped up the updates, I felt a real sense of accomplishment. I had woven the insights from my course directly into my Wix page, making it a valuable teaching tool that embodies the principles of non-verbal communication. I realized that the essence of this type of communication transcends traditional boundaries, extending into the digital realm in ways I hadn’t fully grasped before. Each detail of my Wix page now communicates the crucial ideas I anticipate learning in COMM 314, turning it into a platform that fosters understanding of non-verbal nuances and enhances connections.

As I conclude this reflective journey, it’s clear to me that effective communication—including non-verbal aspects—goes far beyond mere words. It involves a rich tapestry of visuals, context, and unique expressions that we each bring to the table. With every update to my Wix page, I not only spruced it up aesthetically and functionally but also developed a deeper appreciation for how crucial non-verbal communication is in forging relationships and fostering understanding. It’s amazing how transforming a simple web page can lead to such profound realizations!
